I agree with this analysis. We in America are also hostages of a madman and his crazy minions. It is ironic that a similar situation exists in the US. The grift, corruption, and rewriting of history, are out there for everyone to see. Our madman is doing horrible things in our name and I do not see a good way to get rid of him either.

You acknowledge wrongdoing but quickly undercut it by comparing Israel’s actions to those of “worse” governments, using moral relativism to deflect accountability. It follows a familiar pattern: celebrate national resilience, criticize current leadership, admit to atrocities, then pivot to defending the state's legitimacy as if that excuses ongoing harm. This structure allows the author to appear self-aware while ultimately justifying continued violence. It implies that because Israel has endured suffering and others behave badly too, its own actions—EVEN AS THE CONTINUE—are somehow acceptable. This framing feels like gaslighting, especially when the atrocities have never stopped, and it evades the urgent moral reckoning that justice demands.

in addition to what I wrote below: I see you hate evil. So perhaps it is difficult for you to deal with a complex situation in which good and bad exist together. Part of growing up is developing the capacity to contain complexity. So yes, I said that Israel is not perfect but then went on to explain the Israeli situation and conditions. This is life, Todd, good and bad exist together and one needs to navigate in that reality.

That was my post. Sorry you didn’t like it. The atrocities committed by Palestinians against Israel are many, as are war crimes. I wrote my thoughts on the situation. I don’t see what you consider gaslighting. if you would prefer to read that the State of israel has no right to exist and that ``jews are inherently evil, you need to look at other posts, there are pleanty of those.

The tragedy began in 1995 when the then Prime Minister, Yitchak Rabin was assassinated because he initiated and signed he Oslo accords. Very soon after the signing of the Oslo accords between Israel and the PLO, which outlined a peace agreement and the establishment of a Palestinian State there were many terrorist attacks on Israel. These attacks were made by Hamas and Jihad in protest of these accords. The terrorism resulted in the strengthening of the right, which opposed the establishment of a Palestinian State. Rabin was assassinated by an ultra right wing activist. In the election after the assassination the Likud party, under the leadership of Netanyahu was elected. Netanyahu's platform has always been "security", promising that he can contain Arab aggression against Israel. In order to remain in power Netanyahu needs for the Israeli people to be afraid of the Palestinians and he has done a great deal to create a situation of danger and fear. This included the weakening of moderate forces in Palestinian society and strengthening the belligerent ones. Almost 30 years of right wing education and media and terrorism has moved many Israelis right. It is a wonder that there are still elements in Israeli society that support peace and coexistence.

The Palestinians in Gaza voted for Hamas, who simply pushed all the PLO opponents to it off roof tops. Hamas, like Netanyahu desire a continuous situation of hostility and war and are dedicated to the total destruction of Israel rather than coexistence. Even today there are those in Gaza who oppose this as evidenced by recent demonstrations in Gaza against Hamas.

The present situation is the result of years of war mongering on both sides as both leaderships need to encourage hatred and aggression in order to stay in power. Only the demise of both of the present leaderships can stop this bloody rampage.

Agree with your analysis, but I don’t see an easy way of forcing new elections and removing the present coalition. Even though the majority of Israelis oppose the war, want a hostage deal at the cost of a ceasefire, want an independent commission of inquiry into the causes and conduct of the war, Netanyahu has succeeded in enlarging his parliamentary majority and will not agree to early elections, and possibly try to cancel the 2026 elections on grounds of a country at war.

Yes, I realise. We are truly hostages of these madmen. The damage is enormous and will be even bigger. At this point we can only hope Bibi will get very sick
